emotional challenges

Our team of counsellors has expertise in areas beyond career planning, including personal counselling for a variety of concerns. Whether in conjunction with or independent of career planning, we can help with the following:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress and burnout
  • Self-esteem and confidence concerns
  • Motivational challenges
  • Relationship issues
  • Past or recent trauma and/or disturbing memories
  • Negative emotional experiences
  • Barriers that impede achieving one’s full potential
  • Interpersonal conflicts
  • Communication issues and assertiveness
  • Challenges (stress/anxiety) around family pressure or parental frustration concerning young people’s career planning

Our counsellors employ a broad range of therapeutic approaches for dealing with these issues, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Solution-Focused Therapy
  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Existential Therapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Self-Soothing and Relaxation Techniques
  • Assertive Communication Training
  • Psychoeducation
  • Emotion-Focused Therapy

We match clients with counsellors who have the appropriate training, skills, and experience in these areas. In cases where we are not trained or knowledgeable to address a specific concern, we provide referrals to other experts in the community. What Can Career Counselling Do?

Career counselling with a Registered Psychologist or Career Coach is an excellent way to make career decisions and find a fulfilling career direction. The process of career counselling includes personality, interest and values assessments, and coaching sessions to ensure you find the right career path for you. All career counsellors at Calgary Career Counselling are Master’s- and Ph.D.-level Psychologists and Career Coaches with extensive experience helping people reach their full potential.

We’re a private organization offering fee-based services, but many extended health plans cover Registered Psychologists. Further, we regularly donate our time to helping those in need with career planning presentations and individual career counselling. Our current relationships include The Calgary Women’s Immigrant Association and Discovery House.
